Cement by itself does not have any compression strength. The cement strength is measured when it is mixed with water, sand, and aggregates which is nothing but concrete strength. The concrete strength for the same cement will vary for different concrete mix ratios.
Concrete compression strength is a measure to find the load a structure can hold without cracking. Its standard measuring unit is Mpa (megapascal) or N/mm2 (Newton per millimeter square). Concrete compression strength is tested for various intervals from the same concrete batch.
The chart shows the minimum compression strength required IS standards for different cement grades. All units are in Mpa.
Cement Grade | 3 Days | 7 Days | 28 Days |
---|---|---|---|
33 Grade Cement | 16 | 22 | 33 |
43 Grade Cement | 23 | 33 | 43 |
53 Grade Cement | 27 | 37 | 53 |
Portland Pozzolona Cement (PPC) | 16 | 22 | 33 |
Portland Slag Cement (PSC) | 16 | 22 | 33 |
